Process Details
You use the RoutCad software to design the contours, shapes, or 3D objects of your choice. The RoutCad Trial Version download only has the very basic features; projects can only be saved but not openned, it can't be used for big projects or to create complex objects. It is highly recommended to purchase the RoutCad V1.0 Full Version. When you purchase the RoutCad V1.0 full version you have access to all the features, plus a set of pre-designed parts, plus multi language selection and the user guide for the software. Once you have created your design, you transmit your design and make payment over the internet. Your personnal information is encrypted. You can also send us your design by e-mail or regular mail 3.5 " diskette or CD and make payment by calling us.

Production Process
Once your design is received. Your file is entered in the machining system and your credit card is charged. If you have provided your e-mail address, a confirmation is sent to inform you that your design is in the machining process. The design you sent will be machined with the material, thickness, and colour that you've specified. The cost is function of the material type, work area, thickness, colour, machining time, thread selection and final piece clean up. All these options are selectable using the RoutCad software. When using the RoutCad software, you can design : contours, shapes, and 3D objects. The contour is a design that you create in a support material and which remains with the support material. The shape is a close form object that is separated from the support material. The 3D object is a combination of contours and or shapes that are inserted in each other. The RoutCad V1.0 Full Release Version user manual gives full explanation with example on how to create objects. It is important to understand that a contour can't be separated from the support material. If your design is a contour you must select the standard material size available, you can only select a custom work size when your design is a shape (object that can be removed from the support material). If you make a contour in a custom size, the whole sheet will be send to you and the cost that will be charge will be higher because of the extra material used. Also, during the machining process the location were the machining starts, this is object 1 to be routed in the RoutCad software will have a small sharp edge due to the piece disconnecting from the support material. It is important in the RoutCad software to start your machining where the shape is continuous, say at the beginning of a straight line. It is also very important to select the sand and clean option so that the small rough protrusions are removed and the contour of the part is sand and clean before delivery. If your machining start at a location where you have created a feature on your shape, the feature might not be as expected. The RoutCad V1.0 Full Version, fully document how avoid this problem. In your design if you do not take this into consideration the shape that you receive will have defect and might not be as expected. When submitting a design with a high quantity, it is highly recommended to order 1 or 2 units, to ensure that your design is as expected, before ordering a larger quantity.

Cost of Machining
The cost of machining is function of : the type of material you've selected, the size of the work area, the complexity of your design, the addition of threaded holes to your design, and the selection of the clean part option. You can compute the cost of machining your design by selecting the Communicate->Compute Cost in RoutCad. The shipping and handling charges are not included. The pre-designed shapes give examples of how much typical designs would cost with a chosen : design, size and material. The cost of machining may change without prior notice.

Machining Precision
The machining system can be precise up to 0.01". The drill itselsef is 0.125" +- 5%. In general precision is very good. You've to ensure that your design is what you want. The red line in RoutCad that are thick is what is being machine. Be aware to look at the grey, this is what will be left "the material", in other words the thick red lines are removed by the machining drill. Once you chose a predefined sheet size, the size that can be machined is 0.75" less on all size to allow clamping of the sheet, this 0.75" is already taking into account in RoutCad. This is explained in complete details in the RoutCad V1.0 user guide.
